As the President and CEO of PayFlex, Mike leads the organization’s strategy and operations across its portfolio of health care financial services. He’s leading PayFlex into its next chapter delivering personalized health care solutions to educate, guide and support PayFlex members on their path to financial wellbeing. Mike is most passionate about helping people achieve their health ambitions, optimizing their health care dollars and delivering an exceptional service experience to each member. Leveraging his past experience, he’ll architect and deliver leading-edge operational strategies building upon PayFlex's strong foundation of innovation, collaboration and empowerment. As a leader, Mike is committed to bringing people together, instilling a shared vision, fostering collaboration, and driving organizational development to ensure continued growth.
Prior to leading PayFlex, Mike served as the VP, Global Business Solutions for Human Resources at Aetna, where he led employee service delivery functions, serving 50,000 employees globally. Responsibilities in this role included Employee Relations, HR Policy & Compliance, M&A, HR Finance, HR Analytics, and strategy. At the same time, Mike served as Head of HR for the Global Finance organization and the Global Operations & Technology organization. In that role, he led a team of HR business partners and consultants to develop talent strategies with a focus on workforce effectiveness, mobility, diversity, and succession planning.
Before joining Aetna, Mike held several executive roles, including Chief Operating Officer for North America at Mercer, Chief Financial Officer and Chief Control Officer for Human Resources at JPMorgan Chase & Co., SVP Benefits Outsourcing at Affiliated Computer Services, and various leadership roles at Mellon Financial Corporation.
Mike holds a BBA in accounting and an MBA in finance from Pace University, and he completed executive education programs in General Management and Leadership at Columbia Business School. Mike and his family enjoy spending time together, going to the theater, and participating in a variety of community events.

Head of Core Operations
As the leader of Core Operations, Carolyn has responsibility for Funding, Print, and Card Operations, along with Continuous Improvement. With a passion for finding efficiencies and leveraging best practices, she seeks to continuously optimize the business. She has more than 25 years in the health care industry and has held a number of leadership roles within collections and accounts receivable, regulatory compliance, corporate training, and policy development.
Carolyn is active with industry groups including the Employers’ Council on Flexible Compensation (ECFC), the Health Savings Account (HSA) Council, and Aetna/CVS Government Affairs.
Carolyn holds an M.B.A. from Patten University, an M.A. from The Graduate Institute, and an undergraduate degree in Social Work from St. Joseph College (now the University of St. Joseph).
Chief Marketing Officer
Susan leads the Marketing team whose focus is PayFlex’s products and service offerings. Her vision is for PayFlex to become the “Om” in a world of choices, resounding with every interaction to create a positive, memorable experience to anyone who touches PayFlex.
Susan has been with PayFlex since 2007. She began her career at Aetna in Marketing and then took a position in Sales in Boston MA. Upon relocating back to Connecticut, Susan joined Mercer Health & Benefits as a Client Consultant where she was responsible for business development, local marketing and managing a book of business.
Her experience in Sales and Consulting combined with an education and passion for Marketing led her to a unique opportunity with PayFlex. Susan was able to build a Marketing team from the ground up, cultivate the PayFlex brand into a well-known industry name and shape the member’s experience through a myriad of marketing initiatives beyond the written word.
Susan has a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in Marketing from Bryant University in Rhode Island and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Bentley College in Waltham Massachusetts, with a concentration in Marketing.
Chief People Officer
In 2018, Liz joined the PayFlex team in a consulting role to help move the business forward through talent strategy. As a human resources professional, she has partnered with various business segments shaping model design and working creatively, from start-up organizations to those going through transformational change. Liz has led culture change programs within the enterprise and multi-year, cross-functional HR implementation projects. Her experience as a strategic HR business partner includes supporting C-suite leaders in clinical, joint ventures, marketing, service operations and international IT functional spaces.
Liz holds a BS from the University of South Carolina and an MS in Organizational Behavior from the University of Hartford. She is also a Certified Master Coach from the Center for Coaching Certification.
Director of Business Initiatives
Stephanie Christino is passionately focused on aligning the PayFlex culture to our strategic goals. She also leads growth & development on behalf of all team members.
Prior to joining PayFlex in 2017 she spent 13 years leading a number of cross-functional Aetna initiatives. She began her career in National Accounts and most recently supported the organization through a large-scale acquisition & integration. Her experiences afforded Stephanie the knowledge that working in a large corporation requires precise communication, collaboration, a strong culture, and focus on growth & development. This is what led her to PayFlex.
Her charter is to work across the organization to nurture a culture that is unique, admired, and sustainable. She is a life-long native of Connecticut where she obtained a degree in Sociology & Marketing from Central Connecticut State University.
Head of Client Services
Jack Gehrke joined PayFlex in February 2017 to spearhead Aetna’s Consumer Payments strategy, focused on delivering solutions that make paying for health care expenses fast, simple, and secure while improving our members’ experience. In 2019, he was appointed to lead the Client Services organization within PayFlex. Jack brings a wealth of experience in the payments, financial and health care space to this position. For more than 30 years, Jack held strategic leadership roles, having served as the Vice President of Digital Payments Technology at Mastercard®, VP, Business Platforms and Operations at Optum/United Health Group, and several leadership roles within Citibank, Chase and AT&T. Jack holds a Bachelor of Science from Sacred Heart University in Marketing Management & Economics.
Chief Technology Officer
As the Chief Technology Officer of PayFlex, Michael is dedicated to developing and maintaining systems to make saving and paying for health care simple and secure for our customers.
Michael has a passion for technology and 23 years of experience in technology consulting and solution delivery. He is committed to driving quality, efficiency, and innovation with a razor focus on the customer experience and security. Prior to joining PayFlex, Michael was a part of Accenture’s Technology practice, responsible for delivering technology solutions for clients in the Financial Services industry.
Michael received his Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering from Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa.
Chief Financial Officer
As Chief Financial Officer, Morgan is focused on the current, and future, financial health of the PayFlex business. Morgan also partners with the business development team on pricing and product development strategies.
Prior to joining PayFlex in 2017, he held various finance and accounting roles focused largely on product development, financial modeling, and long-range planning. Morgan holds a BS in accounting from the University of Nebraska and an MBA from Creighton University.
Head of Strategy and Product Development
Jenn is responsible for leading PayFlex’s product organization. She has held various roles within Aetna and PayFlex over the years focused on strategy and new product development. Jenn joined PayFlex in 2013 to co-lead the launch of a first of its kind digital payment solution. She also spearheaded several large information technology and product development initiatives including web and mobile redesigns.
Through her leadership, she’s helped transform PayFlex products and services to make it simple to plan, save, and pay for personal well-being.
Personally, Jenn has welcomed both of her children while at PayFlex. She enjoys running, skiing, and spending quality time with her family. Jenn has a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Niagara University.
Jeff Protextor, J.D.
Chief Compliance Officer
As the Chief Compliance Officer of PayFlex, Jeff leads the Regulatory Affairs and Corporate Compliance organization. Jeff is dedicated to leading and cultivating a culture of compliance by providing sound direction, driving a robust control environment, and helping to safeguard our clients, members and colleagues by ensuring compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements on behalf of PayFlex. Jeff leads the PayFlex Regulatory Affairs team and the PayFlex Policy Governance program. He also oversees the PayFlex Client Contract Management program and manages the PayFlex Oversight and Controls group.
Prior to joining PayFlex in 2010, Jeff managed group health care compliance at Coventry Health Care of Nebraska as the HIPAA Privacy Officer and regulatory compliance for group insurance products at Mutual of Omaha. He has more than 20 years of legal and regulatory compliance experience, specializing in the areas of employee benefits, health insurance and tax-advantaged accounts. Jeff holds a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Political Science with a concentration on Public Administration from the University of Nebraska and received his Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from Creighton University, School of Law.
Chief Commercial Officer
Paul joined PayFlex in July 2019 to lead the business development effort. Paul is a seasoned financial services executive with a demonstrated ability to build and lead high performing teams capable of delivering sustained organic growth.
Before coming to PayFlex, he held a series of executive roles including North American Platinum Client Executive and National Director of Wealth and Insurance Alliances for BNY Mellon’s Investment Management and Wealth Management businesses. Paul also led the business development and client management functions for JP Morgan Chase and its Corporate Prepaid Card franchise, which included their Health Savings Account business.
Prior to entering the private sector, Paul served as an Infantry Officer in the United States Army’s 75th Ranger Regiment.
Paul holds a BA from The Citadel and an MBA from the SC Johnson Graduate School of Management at Cornell University.
Head of Member Services and Claim Operations
Michael joined PayFlex in February of 2013 and is responsible for Customer Service and Claim Operations for the company.
Prior to joining PayFlex, Michael has held a number of positions of increasing responsibility in his 23 years at Aetna. He began his career on the front lines and moved into different roles that rounded out his experience including Financial Analyst, Plan Sponsor Liaison , Project Manager and Manager of Service Operations often working with some of Aetna’s largest customers. Michael received his Bachelor of Science in Finance and Organizational Behavior from Illinois State University in Bloomington-Normal, Illinois.
